LADAKH 2007

18 courageous Dhammadutas from Malaysia led by Bro Charlie Chia @ Tsering Thundup spent a total of ten days in Ladakh Himalayas. This photo was taken in KhardungLa Pass which is at 18,380 feet above sea level. It was 3 degrees celsius and oxygen was thin enough to cause breathlessness and headaches. However the great feeling on top was worth it.

We are now registering for the Ladakh 2008 which will depart on August 2008 school holidays. Sign up now by email to chialuimeng@gmail.com

RICH BUDDHIST POOR BUDDHIST

Had a great week. On Friday 25th May 2007, I gave a talk on "Living in A Stressful Society" in Tiratana Buddhist Centre in Taman Eng Ann, Klang. This was a follow-up talk in the same centre last week where the topic was "Feng Shui and Buddhism".

I remember the first time I gave this talk was in the year 2003 after many questions were asked of Buddhists. `Can Buddhist Believe in Feng Shui'. At that time many of our English speaking Buddhists were exposed to Feng Shui by Ms Lilian Too who became well known for her simple to read books. The craze and interest were huge as if this was the greatest secret hidden from the English speaking mass for a long time.

I thought this was a great opportunity to present the Buddhist Science as taught by the Buddha and how it is presented in the form of Feng Shui metaphysics. The main idea is the understanding of the natural energies and forces in our environment and the universe and the ability of man in adjusting to the harmony of these energies and conditioning our mind energies.

The popularity of this knowledge was wide and I thought we could use this skillful means to attract more people to the Dhamma. Once I was asked to give an attractive topic for a public talk in Kuantan. `Feng Shui and Buddhism' was suggested and true enough, it does attract many people new to Buddhism to come to the Buddhist centre. Once they heard the Buddha Dhamma instead, the yearn to learn more translate into new members.

Last Friday's talk in Tiratana was well attended by some 60 people. It is refreshing to note that English Dhamma talks can still attract such crowds unlike in the Universities where the English speaking students are diminishing by the day. The topic of reducing stress in modern living was very apt as the Buddha Dhamma had been the best tool in reducing tension and stress.

The simple exercises conducted that night basically tell the audiences that one can focus their minds to massage their bodies and relax the stressful mind. Also the two principles in giving the mental strength to a person in coping with stress and dissatisfaction are `How to Manage Change' and `The Art of Letting Go'. Once a person acquire these two skills, the attitude and way of looking at the changes in life and the releasing the grasping mind will transform one's attitude and the way of looking at life.

The night ended with great enthusiaism that many have requested that i pen down my thoughts in my blog site so that they can revise and follow up. So here I am struggling with new posting and keep the site up to date.

Introduction to Buddhism Course will be conducted by Charlie Chia and Uncle Vijaya Samarawickrama in Kajang Buddhist Centre in Jalan Reko, Kajang Town. The course spreads over a period of two Saturdays and this week Saturday 24th March 2007 will be conducted by Charlie.
Elementary Feng Shui Course
On 9th March till 11th March 2007, I attended the Elementary Feng Shui Practitioner's Course conducted by none other than the GrandMaster Yap Cheng Hai himself. Indeed its an honour to be associated with such a notable person whose knowledge of metaphysics is beyond any of the Malaysian Masters today. The compatibility of Buddhism and the art of Feng Shui have created a great interest in me. Indeed this understanding have provided a good platform to enable Buddhists to prepare for the fruition of their good karmic seeds by generating the right conditions for their arising. The course provides many answers for one to answer the question `Can Buddhist believe in Feng Shui'.

This is a picture of me and my eldest daughter Chia Sue Ann in the gardens of the Mahabodhi Temple & Bodhi Tree in Buddhagaya. We visited Buddhagaya and Sarnath on our way back from Ladakh in June 2006.

it was a rejuvenating Dhamma experience for both of us as we renewed our faith and refuge in the Triple Gem at the very place where this Dhamma era started.

The wonderful experience was blessed by the teachings and sharing by our Venerable Mahinda who accompanied our contingent of 37 pilgrims to Ladakh and Buddhagaya.

Sue Ann definitely had expressed that the trip gave her courage and confidence. May she tread her eightfold way well.

Uncle Vijaya Samarawickrama, my co-host for the Intermediate Buddhism Course in Subang Jaya will be leaving for Sydney and will not be available to conduct the lessons this Friday 29th September 2006. I will be replacing him and the topics for this Friday talk will be as follows:

Science & Religion
  • Modern Religion and scientific discoveries
  • Dependent Origination
  • Universe & its Origin
  • Devas & Deities
  • Tranference of Merits

On the 22nd and 23rd September 2006, I was invited to conduct a series of talks in the USM Kubang Kerian Buddhist Society Outing Camp 2006 in Pantai Melawi, Kelantan. The theme for the outing camp was `Spiritual Journey of KalyanaMitras'. Amongst the titles of the talks were `Mind Power' and Buddhist Formula for Resolution of Unhappiness'.

Throughout the two days, I was pleased to observed that even medical science students who were supposedly the cream of the students were able to exhibit great humility and caring nature for Buddhist brothers and sisters in the little Buddhist family within the campus. I was impressed with their team spirits and willingness to cooperate with each other in making the camp enjoyable and beneficial to each other. Sadhu to the boys and girls of USMKK.
